Yes, it is slow on older hardware, but on most computers used today it works very well. OpenOffice - the mother of them all non MSOffice suites, it deserves its reputation (and its widespread use in most Linux distros) because it really delivers - features, document compatibility, you name it. Until it has MS document (and ODF) compatibility that comes close to OpenOffice's i dont think it will be widely used.

I did read somewhere that the authors dont value the cross-application/document compatibility that high, but i am sorry to say that exactly this is what most users want (and need) because we dont live in a perfect world.
